It has seemingly been an age since the Belfast Northstars (4-8) trod their home soil but they will finally welcome the Greystones Mariners (3-8) to Henry Jones Field this Sunday (12pm).
It is not only league position that the two sides will be scrapping for this weekend, the game is the decider for this seasons series, the Stars having split the games in Dublin earlier in the year. With only three games to go in the regular season for the Northstars ‘A’ team, every point is vital to get the team into playoff contention.
The first game saw a walk off victory in the tenth inning

for the Ms, with complete game pitching performances from Mark Smith (4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 BB, 9K) and Jaime Cuevas (9 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) neutralising each other until the winning run was plated by Paul Coomes plating the winning run in the bottom of the 10th for the home team, 3-2 the final.
In the second game, the Mariners would call upon Gareth Donnelly, Jack Fairbarn and Mark Treacy to counter a solid performance from Gord Cuthbert (7.0 IP, 4 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K). Cuthbert would be supported by the lively bats of the Northstars and an even distribution of production – four of the starting nine would provide 2 RBI each as the Belfast team won the slugfest 12-8.
Jon Carter’s men will look to hit a talented Greystones team early and often this weekend as the 2014 season begins to wind down.
