This weekend the Belfast Northstars will wish happy trails to catcher Chris Smith as he returns home to the pacific North West of Washington State.

Chris joined the team at the Lisburn Open Practice, held in the Lagan Valley Leisure Centre in Lisburn last winter and was an instant hit amongst the team.

Straightaway you could see that Chris had played at a high level before, his fundamentals were sound and he was genuinely excited about suiting up for the Northstars’ said Neil Boyd ‘as well as that, he threw himself into the social aspect of the club which was fantastic for team morale.’

A catcher coming into this year’s Northstars side would have to split time between Darwin Sanchez and Damien McGivern; fortunately Smith was only too willing to play any position required for coaches Jon Carter and Jose Santos. This versatility was only too evident when the Stars made the trip to Attnang-Puccheim to represent the Northstars at t

he Finkstonball invitational tournament.

Apart from anything else you can clearly see that Chris has a love for the game. That has been infectious around the team and he’ll be missed. We wish Chris all the best and I’ve no doubt that he’ll pull on the maroon and gold again.

Hasta luego.
