History repeating itself
After a solid outing at the Softball Ulster start of season blitz, the Belfast Angels begin to ramp up their 2016 campaign tomorrow evening as they take on the Sliders in the Carrie Trundle Cup.
The Halos will take heart in a solid performance against the reigning league champions in the opening game of the blitz, defeating them 11-5 with strong debuts from Amy Simpson, Vicky Thompson and former aviator Chris Stange.
With coach (and heart of the order hitter) Jonny Craven on the DL, the Angels showed a consistent and balanced output from the complete batting order with experience, speed and power all being utilised to devastating effect.
But the champs are still the champs.
With some of their players representing the national fastpitch side on that day, the Sliders will no doubt be at full power on Monday evening with a rock solid defence that saw them take apart many teams in Softball Ulster last season.
If the Angels looking to be true contenders this year, Monday will no doubt be a trial by fire. Coaches Craven and Slevin will be expected to lead by example.
