Collision course

With the paint drying on the brand new Hydebank baseball facility, the Belfast Northstars will have to wait one more week to dig their cleats into the first diamond in the North of Ireland. Until then, they welcome the Cavan Comets to the 'bank.

With teams beginning to jostle for position in the B league North division, the Northstars find themselves at the top of the pile, however the crosstown Buccaneers have two games in hand. With a 5-2 record, the Stars will welcome the 3-3 Comets to Belfast who will be desperate to keep sight of the top of the division before any gap becomes too great.

After a much more focused performance against the champion Dublin Spartans last week at Lough Moss, Shackley's team will be looking to continue that discipline against an always dangerous Cavan side.

Welcoming back Stephen Rogan, Kevin O'Hare and Gord Cuthbert, this will be a deep Northstars squad that is looking to defend their home soil.

Melvin Woods will no doubt be taking the hill once more for Belfast and with all pitchers present and available, Shackley will have no shortage of arms to call upon through the double header.

Looking to continue his strong start, Chris Shields (0.294 BA, 0.520 OBP, 9 runs) will no doubt make a nuisance of himself on the basepaths once more.

First pitch 11am.
