Going swimmingly
The Belfast Northstars will take part in that rarest of things this weekend at Hydebank – a single header.
The Greystones Mariners make the trip north on Saturday morning to get their first look at the Hydebank baseball/softball facility to take on both Belfast franchises. The Bucs will square off against the Ms at 11am before the Northstars match up in the afternoon tilt at 2pm. Boasting a 9-2 record, the Stars are fully aware that the Buccaneers are breathing down their necks. They are also aware that one of their two losses in this 2016 season were at the hands of these same Mariners.
That loss seems like a lifetime ago now.
As the weeks have rolled in, the Stars have began to click defensively, catching up with its potent offensive punch that has produced 130 runs so far at an 11.8 per game clip, That ,with a variety of pitching looks and velocities, the Belfast Northstars are gathering momentum as they move to the mid season of 2016.
The Mariners will be looking to move back up the rankings of the B League South as teams begin to jostle for playoff berths. Always dangerous on the basepads and with the ability to score runs in bunches, total concentration will be demanded of the Belfast men
once more at Hydebank on Saturday.
