Angels put to sword by Buccaneers
After a bit of a layoff, the Angels showed a degree of rust in their first game in about a month. Their opponents however, did not.
The Bangor Buccaneers came into Hydebank with all cannons firing, handing the Halos a heavy loss. The game started sensibly enough with the Bucs plating two in the first. Aggressive baserunning by Chris Stange was enough to split the lead in half in the bottom of the first. The visitors pushed further out in the second, adding four more but the Angels were able to flex their muscle with home runs by Sean Shackley and Jonny Craven. In another counterpunch, the Bangor side scored five more in the third making the lead 11-3. A two run blast by Colin Woods kept the Halos within touching distance at 15-6 but that would be when the Buccaneers pulled away for good, making the score 22-7 after 6 and even with a clever double play by Woods and Slevin, the Angels bats had gone cold (thanks in no small part to three great running catches by the Bucs outfield); one more run being little consolation to the home side with the final score being 34-8.
Little respite for the Angels in the last few games of the 2016 season, as the Brawlers and the return leg of the Buccaneers fixture await.
