Storm warning
After the mid-season break for the European Championships, the Belfast Northstars will return to action today at Hydebank as they prepare for the final push in the 2016 season. Today's opponent is a side that will not excuse any rustiness.
After registering a famous victory against the Dublin City Hurricanes in Corkagh Park way back in April, an 11-7 result that was a huge catalyst for the season, Shackley and co. know full well that the Hurricanes travel north with revenge on their mind.
With playoff positioning still up for grabs, the Hurricanes know that every win counts as they jostle for top spot in the B league south with the Greystones Mariners.
Shackley will have a deep squad at his disposal today who will be looking to hit the ground running despite a long layoff thanks to the Euros and the postponed Black Sox fixtures a couple of weeks ago.
With this and two more games against the West Clare Dolphins in Corkagh at the end of the month the Stars will only have so many innings of work to go round, but selflessness has been a trait of this year's team. Players have grown and leaders have emerged. No quarter will be asked and none will be given at today's final home league game.
First pitch 2pm.
