Woods collects hardware at SU awards
In what is likely to be a fairly award heavy offseason for him, Melvin Woods received his first honour last weekend at the Softball Ulster awards.
In an evening that saw Vik Scott of the Bangor Buccaneers named as the female Most Valuable Player, Woods was named male Most Valuable Player along with Phil Wallace of the Belfast Softball Club.
The power hitting first baseman would constantly test the boundaries of the fields and in some cases promoted a 6-man right side of the defence in an effort to stop him. As quick as he is powerful, it took very little for Woods to charge the bases, often risking overtaking his own players or even some officials.
With an ability matched only by his enthusiasm, Woods is a dominant force in the league and the BASA would like to congratulate him on his award.
